What is Poshmark?

Poshmark is a social commerce marketplace for fashion, where anyone can buy, sell, and share their personal fashion style.

Poshmark app is different than other online marketplaces like Ebay and Mercari, because it focuses on fashion, and allows its members to be active in the community.

Members need to follow each others, share each others items and share their own closet daily to benefit from a maximum exposure to be able to make sales.

The app allows buyers to negotiate prices and make offers to sellers before making a final purchase.

How to Sell on the Poshmark App?

Selling on the Poshmark app is easy and free and can be done using a smart phone. You can start your closet by following these simple steps:

1- Download the App + create your closet

2- List your first item:

  • Tap on the sell button in the app
  • Take a new photo or upload an existing photo of the item you wish to sell.
  • Add listing title, description, price, etc.
  • Tap on Next, share it with your friends if you wish, and then tap on List

5 Tips to Increase Sales

1- Listing:

When listing an item for sale on Poshmark, it is important to keep in mind that a potential buyer may be willing to make a purchase if the title and description of the listing describes the item exactly, including any unique features or even a defect.

Many reviews online advice sellers to write long titles and description to attract more buyers, but my personal experience as a poshmark seller proved that potential buyers are more interested in honesty and short listings focused on items key features: Brand + size + color + measurements + materials + defects, etc.

Tip: Don’t worry about how long your description is and focus on keywords that describe the item you are selling. Potential buyers want to know what the item is and learn more about: Brand, size, color, materials, defects, measurements…

2- Photos:

When taking photos of the item you are listing, it is important to make sure that the photos show the item clearly without any other elements that can be described as distractions. I’ve seen many photos including more items than the one posted for sale, like adding expensive jewelry while trying to sell a $15 shirt.

The photos of the listing will be more descriptive if they are taken in a clear background, preferably in a white background to show the item’s key features clearly.

Tip: Add up to 16 photos in a white background and show all features of the listing.

3- Following:

The Poshmark App is different than other commerce platforms like Ebay and Mercari. It is a social marketplace for fashion where members follow each others and share each others closets.

Following other members daily is important to attract more followers and potential buyers to your Poshmark closet.

The more people you follow = The more followers you have = More exposure and sales.

4- Sharing:

To increase your sales on the Poshmark App, it is important to share other members closets as well as your own closet.

When you share other members listings, most of them will share your listings to their followers, which gives your closet a lot of exposure that usually translate into sales.

5- Making Offers:

By following the tips above, you will start seeing some traffic in your closet. You will get more followers, more shares of your closet and even more sales.

You will also get likes for your items from other members who are just curious, or members who like your listing but are not sure about buying it, or members who like your item but think that your price is too high, etc. In this case, it’s important to use the make an offer tool available on the Poshmark app, and offer a discount to your item’s likers, who are potential buyers searching the app for the item you are selling.

Tip: Offer discounts to potential buyers when they like your item to increase your sales and the number of returning customers to your closet.
