What is Crossposting on selling apps?

Crossposting on eBay, Poshmark and Mercari is the act of listing the same item in the three online marketplaces.

Why is crossposting so important?

When an online seller lists an item on eBay, Poshmark or Mercari, it only gets a little exposure because of the huge number of items posted daily on these platforms.

Crossposting is a smart and easy way to reach more customers and make more sales by listing the same item on the three online marketplaces.

How to crosspost on eBay, Mercari and Poshmark?

To crosspost on the three selling apps, you need to list an item on eBay, copy the information and paste it in your new listings on Poshmark and Mercari.

To crosspost an item, follow these simple steps:

  • Create a new listing on eBay.
  • Take clear photos of the item, preferably in a white background.
  • Add a title that contains keywords describing your item.
  • Add a keyword focused description that tells potential customers about the item listed.
  • Copy the information and paste it on your new listings on the Mercari and Poshmark apps.
  • Make some app specific changes, such as the number of photos allowed and the number of characters in the title…

Important: Crossposting on different online marketplaces is a matter of copy and paste, but keep in mind that when an item is sold through one app, it’s important to quickly visit the other apps where it’s listed and mark it as sold or unavailable or even delete it if you choose too.

Does Crossposting mean more sales?

It depends. When you crosspost an item on eBay, Mercari and Poshmark, you should expect that your listing will be seen by a lot more potential buyers than if you list it in only one selling app.

With that said, if your title is not keyword focused, or your listing’s photos don’t show clearly the item to the customer…it may not increase your sales even if you cross-list.

Here is how you increase your sales while crossposting

1- Finding the right merchandise to sell for the right price:

It’s important to find sources where you can buy quality merchandise to resell for a good price to be able to make a profit. You can find sources in your local area or online.

This is important to increase sales because you don’t need any merchandise, but you need items and brands that customers are looking for online.

Following are some ideas and places you can check out:

  • Items around your house
  • Garage sales in your city
  • Flea Markets in your area
  • Auctions around your location
  • Goodwill & Thrift Stores in your neighborhood
  • Salvation Army Stores
  • Estate Sales
  • Goodwill Outlets (To buy items per the pound – different than regular Goodwill stores)
  • Bulq dot com ( Buy boxes or pallets of items. mostly returns from big retailers)
  • Local Facebook Groups
  • Liquidation dot com (Auction site for wholesale)
  • Directliquidation dot com (Auction site for wholesale)
  • Discounts at Retail Stores (Walmart, Target…)

2- Listing:

It is important to make it easy for a potential buyer to make a purchase decision, by choosing a title that reflects what the item is, and a description that defines the item.

Provide any important characteristics such as brand, measurement, color, size, functionality, new or used…

Remember that long and boring descriptions don’t help, because buyers are only interested in the item they are searching for.

Any defect in the item should also be presented in the description to avoid bad feedback and returns.

3- Photos:

While taking photos, keep in mind that the potential buyers are on their phone or laptop and not in the store. Make it easy for them by adding photos that show the item clearly preferably in a white background.

Add the maximum number of photos allowed by the selling app you are using and show all angles and characteristics of the items.

Avoid distracting the potential customer’s attention from the item you are trying to sell. I’ve seen sellers adding expensive jewelry to a $15 shirt.

4- Making Offers:

After listing items you get likes from potential buyers. Making offers to likers regularly will help you boost your sales.

Likers are usually shopping online, offering them a good deal is important before you lose them to your competition.

5- Communicating:

Communicating with buyers is very important. Make sure you answer customer’s questions about your listings on time, make offers and accept buyers’ offers when they are reasonable.

Losing a few dollars to make a customer happy is very important. Keep in mind that a 5 star rating and good feedback will encourage other potential buyers to make purchases from your store.

6- Leave a good impression:

Customers appreciate a personalized Thank You card.
